How To Design a Header
There are plenty of people out there who want to create a website header but do not have enough knowledge about them. Well, the first thing you notice on a website is the header. That is like the headline of a newspaper. You can’t miss that. Well, actually you can if it is not designed properly. Since the design of the header is the first thing you will notice on a website, it is imperative that the design must attract target visitors. That would be the most important part of a professional design.
There are several ways in which you can design a header. However, like most web graphics, it is best done with the software the professional users like most. Adobe Photoshop has been in the market for a long time and has all the tools that you would need in order to design headers. Before you go ahead and fire up your computer and Photoshop, there are a few things that you will need to do. Designing a header largely depends on the website. The type, contents, target audience, purpose, all these affect the design of a good header. Keep all of these in mind before you start.
Once you know about the contents, audience and purpose, brainstorm some ideas about the header. Since it is like a headline, the excerpts of the site should be graphically and conceptually present on the site. A site about finance may have the numbers found on bank statements and people wearing suits while a club will have a lot more flashy images like strobe lights. The same goes for effects. The effects on the site of a hospital should focus on subtlety more than anything because hospitals are calm places. On the other hand, a technology website may have the latest technologies featured with effects that focus on the contents of it.
Once you are ready for brainstorming ideas, get a pencil and paper to put them on it. You must have some rough designs and go through the ideas before going near the computer. If you have enough ideas ready to start with designing, go fire up the computer. The size is a big matter. There are sizes that would fit full width sites. Also, you can go for the smaller ones if that is what would make the site look and serve better.
Coloring is very important. The colors you choose should definitely match that of the background and also reflect the theme of the site. Choosing the right font is another important thing you should really focus on. Try different ideas and see which one works best because apart from the graphical representation, the title should really be prominent. Usually sites have tag lines and it goes right under the title. This tag line should definitely have a different font and text size to distinguish it from the header. Now for the finishing touches, place it on the site with arbitrary but relevant contents to see how it looks. Make small changes and also, test it on mobile devices to see if it works there.
That should do it for you are confident enough that you can do it alone. However, if you are not, leave it to us since we know how to do it best.
