We all buy and use CDs and the cover is very important in making a buying decision. The music CDs that have irrelevant covers will not sell well. Software CDs will also fail if they have covers that do not connect to the content of the CD. However, there are some really good designs that will charm anyone and make the CD sell very well. Besides, a good cover will also make a CD take its place among collectibles. If you are thinking about doing the cover design of a CD on your own, try the ideas that a lot of successful designers follow.

A cover of a CD is just like the cover of a book. People judge the content from the cover. A metal music lover will look for a particular kind of cover to make sure that the content is going to match his or her taste. Similarly a simulation game fan will be interested in a game only if the gameplay is somehow on the cover and tells good stuff about the game. The idea we get from the covers is what makes the CDs sell well. Therefore we must not forget about the contents that should be on the cover too. The front page may be all about graphics but still it should deliver a minimum amount of data about the content to the customer.

To design a CD cover, you must think about the content. The content is what decides how the cover should be looking like. For instance, there will always be significant difference between a pop music CD and a rock one. If a rock CD does not look like a rock one or have elements from the pop genre, the CD will definitely not be best seller. People look for some elements that are typical to a genre. If some of those are missing, they will presume that it is not what they have been looking for and therefore, the CD will miss part of its target customers.

Of course you can do experiments with the design. In fact that is the first thing you should focus on. Get a good idea about the content and think of ideas on how to design it. It can be all pictures or all effects. If you go for pictures though, make sure you get the high quality ones because when you put effects on a bad quality picture, it will in most cases make it worse. In case of effects, don’t go overboard with too much technicality. Make sure the design is easy to understand and can attract the target customers.

In case of music CDs, the information about the tracks should be presented in a professional manner. Otherwise people will not be interested. In case of other CDs, the back portion should contain enough information to complement the design on the front. A CD with little information may not appeal to a lot of people. Put all these ideas together in your favorite cover design software and you will have a cover that will definitely be appealing.

However, if the process of creating your own cover design seems too complicated, we can design it for you.
